"No Pac" Congressman Ro Khanna on Gorsuch Nomination to Us Supreme Court

Statement

Date: Feb. 1, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

California Congressman Ro Khanna -- one of just six lawmakers who refuses contributions from PACs and lobbyists -- issued the following statement on Neil Gorsuch's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court and his record on money in politics.

Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17) stated:

"If the Senate confirms Neil Gorsuch to the US Supreme Court, our fragile democracy under this administration will crumble even further. In his career as a judge, Gorsuch issued a strict decision that indicates there is little hope for lessening the influence corruptive money has on our political system. He has written that money in politics is a "fundamental right.' The Court has granted too much power to the very wealthy; silencing the public from being true participators in our political process. This view, combined with Gorsuch's opposition of civil rights, including for LGBT people, and his rejection of a woman's right to choose under Roe v. Wade, demonstrates he does not have the values that will move our democracy forward."
